HEKS/EPER is making a difference in Honduras

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. Some 65 per cent of the population live in extreme poverty. Neglect of the rural population is the main cause of the continuing exodus of people to cities and to other countries. Yet many have still not lost hope for a better future in Honduras. With great commitment and creativity, village communities are striving for a better future. HEKS/EPER supports them in improving agricultural output, in safeguarding natural resources and in securing land and local seeds that are adapted to climate change. They are also being assisted in defending human rights vis-a-vis a repressive State. Since Honduras is experiencing ever more frequent and severe storms, flooding and droughts caused by climate change, HEKS/EPER is promoting disaster resilience as well as adapted farming methods. Should natural hazards turn into disasters despite prevention measures, HEKS/EPER responds flexibly by providing humanitarian aid for those hardest hit.
