Our projects

HEKS/EPER is making a difference in the «Advocacy for the socially disadvantaged» in Israel-Palestine

In a region marked by long-standing conflicts, HEKS/EPER is striving to promote peace based on justice and respect for human rights. The latter have been drastically curtailed as a result of the strife and this is hampering a permanent peace settlement. HEKS/EPER supports civil society players that are working, by non-violent means, to overcome the current conflicts and inequality. To this end, a network of local and international organizations is being forged in order to achieve a just, human rights-based peace settlement. Under the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), HEKS/EPER also works to enhance the protection of the civilian population through the use of international human rights observers. HEKS/EPER carries out awareness-raising activities in Switzerland.

HEKS in Israel/Palestine

Facts

In 2017, some 68000 people living in conflict situations were reached through peace initiatives or protective measures.

HEKS provides pro bono legal advice for people in emergency situations in the areas of social insurance, social welfare, family matters, children and guardianship, tenancy and foreign nationals. Those affected by poverty as well as undocumented persons should have the possibility of receiving legal advice. The legal advice offices for socially disadvantaged people in the Cantons of Aargau and Geneva provide professional advice to those in need of help. Legal experts and/or lawyers help those needing advice to understand legal situations, and also point them towards possibilities for self-help. In selected cases, the legal advice office undertakes the legal representation of a needy person.
