HEKS/EPER is making a difference in the «Humanitarian Aid» in Asia
As part of its rural community development activities in Asia, HEKS/EPER supports smallholder families in improving their food security and incomes. Underprivileged minorities are also supported in claiming their rights and in the non-violent resolution of existing conflicts. On the humanitarian aid front, HEKS/EPER assists refugees and victims of extreme events such as floods or storms, often caused by climate change.
In Indonesia, HEKS/EPER is strongly committed to climate justice and the fight against land grabbing that goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of oil palm and sugarcane plantations. Accordingly, HEKS/EPER helps local people to stand up for their rights, and advocates for fair supply chains in the textile and electronics industries. HEKS/EPER calls for a greater sense of responsibility on the part of the industrialized North, including in Switzerland.
In Palestine and Israel, HEKS/EPER supports positive forces that seek dialogue and strive for peaceful and just coexistence.
Armed fighting in Syria and Iraq has displaced millions of people, leaving many with no income, bleak prospects, and living in poor accommodation. Returnees lack resources, land and jobs. HEKS/EPER is actively involved in providing humanitarian aid for refugees and returnees by mounting cash projects, securing access to food and water and helping to rebuild the local economy.
HEKS/EPER operates in following countries in Asia: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Lebanon, Myanmar and Syria.
When natural disasters occur and during and after armed conflicts, HEKS/EPER provides needs-based emergency aid worldwide so as to rapidly improve the lot of civilians. HEKS/EPER focuses its humanitarian aid on the following four areas: distributing vital aid supplies such as water, food, hygiene products and providing temporary shelter; improving economic livelihoods; rebuilding damaged or destroyed houses and infrastructure; and boosting the capacity of the civilian population to withstand future disasters and conflicts. HEKS/EPER thus provides help for self-help, especially for extremely poor, vulnerable and endangered people and, together with those directly affected, develops sustainable prospects. Such partnership helps reinforce their autonomy and dignity.
